Inter High Track Meet, Presentations

Inter High School Track Meet

To the victors, the spoils. We can see by the board that O.B.H.S. had a point total of 127 ½, many of them racked up by Bob McLaren (JL). John Lund writes (990830) that Bob was the pillar of boys' track and field in 1963. Isn't that Rick Higgins on the number two step?

[Audio ambiance]

Was it in this meet that Bob McLaren established the 100 yard record that was still the B.C. high school record in 2002? Anyway, behold the man! In those days of primitive track surfaces, primitive shoes and antediluvian coaching methods, Bob established a record that stood for 30 years!

Is this chap in the Panama hat the principal of Vic. High?

There are many spoils on this fine afternoon.

Bob McLaren and? Somebody, please send in the name of the girls' team leader.

Bays are the best; they have won the WHOLE thing!

Gerry Hagberg confirms Bob McLaren and identifies Gaynol Vosburgh as the girls' team leader. Mr. Orme might be the third head to the right of Bob's left knee.

Those who recall the events and names appearing here or who have records of that meet, send along your information so that it can be incorporated into this page. The author is hampered in identifying faces by the lack of a yearbook. It and all other school days memorabilia were stolen in the sixties. The best technique is to print off the page, make hand written notations on it and then send the page by mail.

If you think that you could identify some of the faces in these pix given more detail, a full resolution image of a face can be cropped for you and sent along, just contact the webmaster.
